Type Locality and Naming

Along the Paltau River, right tributary of the Chatkal River in its lower course, Koksuysky Ridge. I.M. Nigmadzhanov in 1987. Stratotype on the right bank of the Paltau River, in its lower course.

Synonym: Paltauskaya Formation, Пальтауская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestones are variegated, predominantly thin-bedded, pelitomorphic, micritic, detrital-slime, sponge-like with horizons of carbonate turbidites, carbonate collapse conglomerate-breccias, landslide rolls; in the upper part of the sv., layers of siltstone (aleurolites) appear. Thickness 150-250m.

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Karatut-Carb Fm

Upper contact

conformably overlain by the Dzhegirgen Fm

Regional extent

Koksuysky Ridge, basin of the lower course of the Chatkal River, Karatutbash Mountain, Paltau, Mazar-Say, Karaarcha rivers. Laterally replaced by massive and thick-bedded limestones of the Ugam Gr.

Fossils

Contains ammonoids - Dombarites parafalcatoides R. et B., Ferganoceras sp., Goniatites sp.; conodonts - Gnathodus bilineatus Roun., Lochriea nodosa (Bisch.), L. homopunctata (Zieg.), L. cruciformis (Clar.).

The full stratigraphic volume of the suite is determined in the interval from the lower part of the upper Visean substage to the upper part of the Serpukhovian stage.
